Stock borrowing and lending involve the practice of lending stocks to investors or firms. The borrower is required to provide collateral, which can be in the form of cash, or other securities. A loan fee, along with any interest, is charged by the brokerage, and this all is specified in a Securities Lending Agreement. Holders of loaned securities receive a rebate from their brokerage.
